Loved the course today. Got a little stabby on the gas on my last run and wasn't as smooth as I wanted to be but it turned out OK.

Dude, even though you finished behind myself and a few others, that has got to be the fastest video post of all time after an event. You are first when it comes to video posting mang

Nice driving today BTW.

I shot several vids with a new HD camcorder, but my computer isn't fast enough to import or edit the videos! :wall:

Here's my fast run:

outside camera = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpIFxi393E0

inside car = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYz7ch4LjSs

I think I blew that last slalom, oh well, that's Autox for ya!

I had a great time yesterday, nice event. The first 3 heats moved along nicely, it seemed pretty early when 2nd heats were ending.

well of the 4 runs i took, i had one clean one(doh!) but here are my two vids. of that run. time was a measly 49.5 i believe=(

this was my first time on Rcomps and i didnt really know how to set them(psi F+R) up. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(staging takes up the first 2:30 seconds)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZteM89JCA28
(OG GoPro on the side)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar85jiUmA5M
(wide angle on the roof)

and my video from the last CBP race i did on the stock dunlops, which is even worse, but a better camera angle(tho it caused me to cone, camera mount hit a cone in this mounting location)(from 4/26/09)
(staging on this one takes until 7 mins in)

What tires are you on? We found that the "optimal" tire pressures could be thrown right out the window in an 08 STI because if you run the tires that low you will destroy them inside of 5 events.

It might have something to do with the body roll

Image

One other thing...how big is that video? My computer had a heck of a time buffering it and playing without skipping...must have taken a ton of time to upload. By comparison my HD videos load pretty much instantly, and are about 30 megs for a 90 second clip before uploading.

videos took about 45sec.s to a minute to upload to youtube. plays just fine on my cpu here at work.

tire pressure that BFG recommended were 40-42 f/r cold so i set them at 38-40 f/r cold and hot they ended up being 40-42(heavy AWD car needs more tire pressure than a light FWD honda).

idk i think i should ask a pro to take it around once to "test" the set up.

Matt,
Looks like he is on 265/35/18 BFG R1 according to his profile. You used to run 275 or 285's on that blue smoke mobile right?

SoloIIscoob,
Come find Matt or myself at the next event. We both have exp with setting up subarus. I already know Matt is going to say you are using the wrong tire size and brand :). Oh and dont be afraid to get someone in the car with you. Im the instructor chief and would love to help you out or find someone that can.

We had 275 Hoosiers and went to 285 Kumhos, which lasted much, much longer, although require a very patient tire guy. With a giant front swaybar the 295 Hoosiers work and are easier to mount than the 285 Kumhos. Chris C. ran those before he wised up and bought an s2k. I think the only bar out there than is big enough right now is the Niles bar, which is a solid 34mm I think, maybe bigger.

He also had double adjustable AST dampers...

Postby soloIIscoob » Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:34 pm

thanks for the advice guys.

tires were really a hard decision to make. with the payments on my car/insurance/cell phone/rent/food/booze i found myself afraid to spend $1500 on a set of tires. so i spent $1000 on decent, long lasting tires in a size i could run with no issues.

i was under the impression that anything over 275 on the stockers(stock BBS or 5 spokes) is a tough squeeze b/c of the offest, not to mention on the stock dampers. had i had the money to get wheels and tires i would have sprung to the 295s with a different offset wheel. but for the time being i am happy with learning Rcomp characteristics over a longer period of time than i would have had i bought hoosiers or kuhmos or the like.

i am content with the result i got so far. with only 1 clean run to get within .2 seconds and .5 seconds of my class leaders(whom i was behind by 1.5 seconds or more until now) i am content. not happy, or satisfied, but content. i still have more room for improvement with the Rcomps and i have no doubt i will now be more on par with the top guys the more seat time i get with them.

Dampers would also help the situation as would the extra 10mm on the sway bar i am lacking=(

*oof* that's a man-sized sway bar.
