Warminster 7-11-09 Video thread

Postby waktasz » Sun Jul 12, 2009 5:35 pm

My fastest raw time. 51.222 +3 though :(. I managed to clean up one of my runs but had two big tank slappers and had to sit on a 52.9. I won't be posting that one

Camera looks good with the addition of the stick on wide angle lens, but the mount was all jacked up today and just kept coming loose, as you'll see in the video.

I forgot to charge the camera battery prior so I put my camera inside so I could turn it on and off sooner. On my 5th run I tried it outside but the battery died just after the start.

Here is my 4th run, 56.054 + 1 cone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYQ9dRVoVu4

Overall, I think I did okay. You can see there was a lot more time out of there for me though.

looks like you have a death grip on the wheel. you need loosen up and turn earlier. seemed like you were late the whole way out and getting back on the throttle late.

other then the spin and the finish section. your first run looked the best. you were late apexing everything.

Matt, that video looks fantastic with the wide angle (minus the moving mount). I'm assuming you're still using the Kodak ZX-1, correct? Links to the wide angle? I need a new setup.

You can get one here http://bridge-well.com/store/product_in ... ucts_id=83

I actually got mine here http://usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view ... cts_id=789 , not realizing it was coming from China. It came pretty fast though and I didn't have any issues with them.

One is a .67x and one is a .5x magnification though.

It comes with a small washer with double sided tape on one end. You stick that to the lens of your camera. The actual wide angle lens has a magnet and you just stick that right to it.

The lens I bought is made for cell phones or small pocket cams. It wouldn't work on a big camcorder like some of you ballers use.

Thats pretty cool. I'm going to have to look into getting one of those. What would the difference be from 0.5 to 0.67? Would the 0.67 be wider?

That camera you have takes some nice video, but what is with the sound?

The sound isn't great, but it is there. It sounds much better coming out of my TV via HDMI cable than it does after Youtube compression.

The .50 would be wider.

Really enjoyed the venue... discovered there's quite a bit of truth in it when karters refer to slaloms as straights.

My best run, 50.5something, good for DFL in F125:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydBbiC5Pmr8

My codriver exhaust mishap... if anyone was wondering what was up with the horrifically loud kart, this is it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6UQ8qyRG74
From what I can tell, the kart hopped on some of the cracks and landed on a bump right where my exhaust bracket clamps onto the frame, knocking it loose and effectively ripping the exhaust off the manifold.

Hopefully will be coming up with the other DC F125ers again!

Wow, Ed. Looks like you aren't trusting your grip enough, especially toward the end. You may have taken the Chicago box faster than I did, but you were much slower and far off the cones toward the finish. You lost a lot of time there. The turnaround looked pretty good, though, and certainly better than all of my runs... Speaking from my own experience, don't be afraid to hit some cones to test the limit.

I gotta get a helmet cam, too. I miss not recording my runs.

I forgot to mention that it is GREAT to have you guys come up and help me develop while you get some extra seat time. Now I wish some other local folks would make the switch to this pure driving experience. Did I mention that it's way cheaper than prepping a car and running it for a season?!

Agree entirely that I'm not pushing the kart hard enough in most places... my fastest runs tend to be those where I'm constantly yelling "dont lift dont lift dont lift" into my helmet--though usually this is followed by overdriving an element when I fail to look further ahead to account for the greater speed. Need more seat time to compensate for the smaller euphemisms. What a ride, though... even if the numbers worked against it (i.e.- more/equally expensive than cars and/or not much faster than cars), karts are a no-brainer.

Scott, if you get a helmet mount for a GoPro camera, we can swap between runs--that's what I've been doing with Danny and Justin. Not as nice as having all your runs on video, but there's always something to learn and pick up on. Alternatively, if you have a good spot on your kart, I have a flat-surface mount you can have next time.

I have some Go-Pro mounts laying around if anyone needs them.

I also have some GoPro mounts. The "shoe" with the double sided tape, about 2-3. I may also have some other parts and pieces I don't need anymore; the thing got destroyed when it fell off a kart at NJMP, then got run over by 10 more karts. The main suction cup mount survived, so I'm using that for the new camera.

I've since gone the Maxqdata video route; still tinkering with settings, but the Logitech camera they recommend has a great picture!

I'm trying to convince wifey-poo that a GoPro Helmet Hero Wide would make a perfect anniversary gift (August 24), especially since Kieran and I could both use it... In the meantime, I would try a mount anywhere to get some footage.
