Pre-Reg - Wachovia Center Exhibition Event - Nov. 22nd!

Postby wrx wagone » Sat Nov 14, 2009 2:24 am

Opens Sat. Nov. 14th @ Noon!

Philly Region is very pleased to announce that we will be holding a SCCA Solo Event at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on November 22nd.

As many of you know Philly Region was recently in contact with the Wachovia Center about hosting an event on their D lot:

http://phillyscca.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5790

evo8dad wrote:I have been in discussions with Comcast Spectacor for possible use of Lot D at the Wachovia Center:

They seem very receptive to the idea, however, would like for us to do a trial event much like we did with the Phillies last year.

The dimensions of the lot are 1,286 feet length by 450 feet width, very big. In comparison CBP is 740 ft wide 830 ft in length but, with a decent amount of lightpoles and medians. Warminster is 200 feet wide by 1700 feet in length. Basically its twice as wide as Warminster and nearly as long

The issue is that the trial event would be on November 22nd, 2009, literally two weeks away. The reason for this post is to gauge the interest of our competitors to the idea of running a trial event on the 22nd. We would need a good showing to be able to put on an event on the 22nd and with it being just around the corner we'd rather gauge the interest from you guys/girls rather than schedule the event and hope for the best regarding turnout.

So please vote above and voice your thoughts/interest. Please also pass the word around in the Solo community. This lot is HUGE and could be a great addition to the region

Well, we are. :toast: Very nicely done Adam, thank you.

Please resister for our Solo Event, held under SCCA Solo Rules here:

Online Registration for Wachovia Center Exhibition Event - Nov. 22nd

Event Capped to 150 cars

Please come out and join us.

I forgot to mention, Dave Newman will the course designer for this event. I'm sure we're all in for a treat.

How do I get around the fact that once I pick a class, I cannot pick any number except the one I have previously run in that class?

That's the point. Jumping numbers in a class adds to our pointskeeper's already demanding workload. Instead of making him spend several hours per event sorting out who ran what number this time, we make you keep your number. You'll get a chance to pick a new one next year.

Anyone interested in a tire warmer, The S2k needs new CV joints and Im not sure they will be in in time. I am willing to chip in towards whatever, I usually drive the Red S2k #91 STU2 for those who have seen me drive.

Understood, that makes sense.

In this case I co-drove in a class other than my normal one (using a derivative of the car owner's number), and now wanted to run one of my own cars in that class with my usual numbers on it. Of course I can just make tape numbers. No problem.

Many people seem to run whatever barcode is on their helmet regardless of what car they are in. Is this frowned upon or encouraged to simplify scorekeeping?

We would prefer that your barcode match the class and number on your car.

For this event, if you want to run a different number, its not a problem. I left the permanent numbers set up people who always run the same number don't have theirs overwritten. PM with what number you want to run and I'll change it.

It causes confusion. Before you pull to the start, we scan your barcode AND read the car number and class. IF they don't match, we can manually override by typing your information in. However we don't like to do that. It slows everything down and makes everyone grumpy, especially if we have to go 'find' you in the registration system. Your class and number is also printed on the bar code sticker which often helps us clear up questions quickly.

Most multi-car drivers point to the relevant barcode when they pull up. Sometimes its on the car, sometimes its on their helmet, sometimes they have it on a index or business card. I personally have experimented with sticking the alternate barcode on a magnetic business card backing. It worked OK as long as I made a point of pointing it out to the number caller/bar code reader.

+1 on the confusion, at least in the truck. If the number caller/receiver team don't catch it, and we see a different car post a time from what was scanned, it causes all kinds of stress, we may hold the start until it's resolved. The concern at that moment is that we have shifted times; times and car numbers are shifted. Also if the car is in a different class, then the PAX time will be wrong as well.

The numbers can be manually entered, but if there are cone calls coming in as well, then there's less attention devoted to that, so there's an increased chance of a mistake.

Bottom line; accurate numbers that are easy to read, that reflect registration correctly make things run smoother, preventing re-runs or start holds, which means we get done earlier or get more runs :)

If they are doing an instructor run then the number that scans doesn't matter as much, since the run won't count.

...as I've been the bar code scanner for a few events, I'll add that if you have multiple bar codes on your helmet (or even the car) that are not being used for the event, put some blue tape over them.

Wish I could do the Wachovia event... but unfortunately, I'll be installing windows...

I have experienced the same issues with some of the carts that have MULTIPLE number sets that were not legible.
The db levels only compounded communication problems with the truck to make sure everything was square.

Will you still be having on-site registration? Pre-reg isn't an option because the refund is a 'credit' to motorsports reg, and my region doesn't use it, and I'd lose my entry fee if I didn't show... so on-site is the better option, if it exists.

I ask because I have to be out the door by the latest at 4am to make it to the site by 9 coming from MA. Ok, that's not the real problem... my wife informed me that we're going to my brothers on Sat night... depending on when we can get out of there will determine if I have enough hours of sleep to attend. I'd rather not drive 5 hrs to an all day event, 6 hrs to get back on 4 hrs sleep. Being safe and all that.

Yes there will be onsite registration. We just prefer pre-registration so we have an idea of the number of attendees but, it is not absolutely necessary.
